It’s all about TREASURE

On Sunday, Oct. 6, we will begin a church-wide study and worship emphasis called Treasure: A Stewardship Program on Faith and Money. The study will be based on Jesus’ words, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).

Over a period of four weeks, we will look at the many ways that our treasure (time, energy, money) affects our hearts. We will consider how financial challenges in our personal lives affect our relationships with people and with God. We will see how giving helps to determine the way we feel and act. If you have stress related to money or feel there may be more that God is calling you to do with your resources, this will be a helpful study.

At the end of the four weeks, you will have the opportunity to make personal commitments of giving to your church for the coming year. All of us will receive estimate of giving cards in the mail, and the cards will also be available on Sunday mornings. We can fill out these cards and bring them to worship on Commitment Sunday, Oct. 27.

We look forward to an exciting month considering our treasure and God’s treasure.

The $5 Challenge

To help kick off our Treasure series on Sunday, Oct. 6, we will have envelopes containing $5 for every person who wants it.

In Jesus’ parable of the talents (Matthew 25:14-30), a man goes away on a trip. Before he leaves, he entrusts money to three servants. To one he gives five talents, to the second he gives two, and the third he gives a single talent. Upon the man’s return, the first two servants double their money giving the original investment PLUS their profit to the man. The third servant, however, buries his talent and returns it without a profit. The man is pleased with the first two servants and dissatisfied with the third. Don’t be the third servant! Each of us have the opportunity to steward that which is God’s and bring back a profit. This $5 is given to you to do just that.

Need some ideas?

  • Purchase $5 worth of gas for a mower or chainsaw and charge $20 to mow someone's lawn or cut firewood for winter;

  • $5 worth of lemonade mix for a sidewalk stand and sell lemonade;

  • $5 worth of baking mix for something delicious to be sold.

You get the idea. It's all about creativity and fun and returning to God what already is God's - with interest! Take this opportunity, go invest it and bring it back (plus the proceeds) on Commitment Sunday, Oct. 27.

Tell us your story!
