Fulfilling a need

We are pleased to announce the formation of our very own Stephen Ministry, a transformational ministry formed in response to those among us going through difficult times. It is a confidential, one-on-one ministry that pairs a trained volunteer with a person in need. Stephen Ministers are not designed to replace pastoral care, rather it extends care after a crisis occurs. After the extended family goes home, when friends stop calling, or the last casserole has been delivered, a Stephen Minister is there to provide support.

Most among us have experienced difficulties. These might include:

  • the loss of a loved one

  • divorce

  • the loss of a job

  • chronic illness

  • addiction

  • isolation

  • an empty nest

  • recent retirement

When these difficult times arise, our trained volunteers stand side by side with individuals by providing a safe space for them to express their fears and feelings. Through active and sensitive listening, our volunteers will offer affirmation and hope to those who need someone to walk alongside them through the storm. By sharing concerns with a kind listener, burdens are eased and hidden gifts are discovered.
